Statement by Ambassador Mitsuru Kitano at the Board of Governors Meeting starting on 7 September 2015

2015/9/14
Item 6(b):
Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy

Thank you Madam Chair,
Japan would like to thank the Secretariat for preparing the Report by the Director General on this agenda item, which provides a useful overview of the Agency’s activities in the Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT).

Japan acknowledges, with satisfaction, the substantial outcomes that have been achieved by the Agency’s activities in PACT, and sees these achievements as an excellent example of the contribution that nuclear applications can make in the area of human health. Japan strongly supports the Agency’s further efforts in raising awareness of radiotherapy diagnoses and treatments, and strengthening its partnerships with key organizations, including the collaborative efforts under the WHO-IAEA Joint Programme on Cancer Control.

Japan will consider a variety of contributions it could make to the Agency’s key activities in PACT such as imPACT Review Missions. In addition to financial resources, we will explore contributions in terms of human resources and capacity-building, including Japanese experts’ participation in the Review Missions, and the establishment of partnerships among national and international organizations.

With these comments, Japan takes note of the report contained in GOV/2015/44-GC(59)/19, and supports the submission of the report to the General Conference.

Thank you, Madam Chair.ecblank
